Rene Seymour—Silent Witness Placard

Item

Biography of Rene Seymour collected by the ACWS. Rene was murdered on August 24, 2000 by a former boyfriend Marlow Cooney. Marlow Cooney committed suicide. Rene was 43 years old and left two daugters - Rosie and Ramona, ages 21 and 19 years and a son Chris who was 16 years old at the time of her death. Rene also left a four-month-old granddaughter, Mackenzie, to whom she was devoted. Rene was a talented artist using a broad range of mediums to represent her love of country life. An industrial sewer by trade, Rene was also a baker and knitter who had a passion for horses. Happily involved in a long-term relationship with Danny Robertson, who was also murdered, Rene was just becoming aware of the danger Marlow presented through his "obsessive behavior". Ramona reminds us that even "the little things that these men are doing" are significant and "watch your back" if you are in an abusive relationship, these things are possible. Rene had volunteered in women's shelters and was helping care for Danny's elderly grandfather at the time of her death.
