Shirley Laboucan—Silent Witness Placard

Item

Biography of Shirley Laboucan collected by the ACWS. Shirley Laboucan was murdered by her common-law husband, Joseph Loonskin on April 11, 2003. Joseph Loonskin was sentenced to four years in prison for manslaughter. Shirley is survived by her four children, Jonathon (20), LeeAnn (19), Lindsey (16) and Cameraon (15). Her mother Albina and stepfather Isodore Auger remembered her as a kind and loving woman who tried to help others in the small community of Jean D'Or. She loved her children and her brothers (John, Brian and Andy) and always wanted the best for them. Albina knows Shirley attempted to get away many times but Joseph used bad medicine to keep her isolated. Shirley lived in poverty but did her best to support her family by sewing all of the towels and sheets for the family.
